TIPS FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE

1. Arrive 15-30 minutes early to check in and set up.

2. Dress in a professional manner.

3. Before you begin, be sure to introduce yourself and give a brief description of what you are performing. If you are doing a performance with several separate parts or songs, introduce each one.

4. When your performance is finished, please thank the residents for having you and ask if they have any questions.

5. Be patient with residents. Many of them love to talk and are truly enjoying the time you are taking to spend with them.

6. At times, residents might sing along, engage in lively conversations, or even dance or clap along during your performance. These actions show their enjoyment of your performance. While these behaviors may occasionally pose as distractions, they serve as invaluable feedback, reassuring you of their genuine appreciation and encouragement to continue delivering your performance with enthusiasm.

7. You may also find some seniors don’t appear to be engaged with your performance. It's important to remember that people express their appreciation and engagement in different ways. Just because someone doesn't appear engaged with your performance doesn't mean they don't appreciate your time and effort.

8. Performing for seniors is a stress-free opportunity. They won’t care if you make mistakes or if you’re nervous. They simply appreciate you showing up and will enjoy any performance you take the time to do.

9. Thank the activities director before leaving and be sure to get your volunteer hours form signed.
